Spokane, pronounced Spoh-Kan, is the second largest city in Washington state. The city was built on a history of fur, gold and silver trade during the European western expansion. However, recently Spokane’s economy is much more diverse. Home to two universities, Gonzaga and Whitworth, this city was actually named after the Native American tribe which stands for “Children of the Sun” in Salishan. Life in Spokane is largely dependent on our climate and locations. Known for our four seasons, we are able to experience snowy winters and sunny summers! We are also located close to several mountains, national parks, and rivers, which allow for lots of outdoor activity. The city is also very well known for Bloomsday, an annual run held each may, and Spokane Hoopfest, the largest 3 on 3 basketball tournament in the world!
