Named for the Boston Railroad tycoon Benjamin Pierce Cheney, this city was established on November 28, 1883. This city is also home to Eastern Washington University and is largely known as a college town. It offers a mix of retail, service and government businesses, which contribute to it’s hosting of community festivals and farmers markets. Fairchild Air Force Base is also located about 7 miles from Cheney, which help contribute to the large military population. As of 2010, there are nearly 11000 people and nearly 4000 homes. The city’s close proximity to Spokane and the Spokane Airport allow for a growing economy as well as a lower than average cost of living.
